When she was a lass of five years old, With her eyes so bright and her smile so bold, She stood at the edge of the battleground. With her eyes so bright and her smile so bold, And a sudden grin as a dream took hold, And she said, "Someday I'm going to be like them." When she was a lass of five years old. And a fire burned so bright that day, And she said she would fight ‘til she got her way, As a warrior maid, as in days of old, With her eyes so bright and her smile so bold. When she was a lass of five and ten, With her heart as wild as the rolling wind, She wept beside the battleground. With her heart as wild as the rolling wind, She sighed and stared and sighed again, For she thought that she could never be like them. When she was a lass of five and ten. But a fire burned so bright that day, And it dried her tears, and it made her stay, And it told her someday she was going to win With her heart as wild as the rolling wind. When she was a woman eighteen years old, With her eyes so proud and her heart so bold, When first she fell on the battleground With her eyes so proud and her heart so bold, And her face so stern as the pain took hold, She held her head up high, a warrior true. When she was a woman eighteen years old. For a fire burned so bright that day, And she swore it would never die away And she saw her destiny unfold, With her eyes so proud and her heart so bold. When she was a warrior strong and grown, With a blade that flashed and a helm that shone, She stood alone on the battleground. With a blade that flashed and a helm that shone And the voice of a queen in her powerful tone, For she knew at last that she had won the day. When she was a warrior strong and grown. For a fire burned so bright that day, And a spirit blazed that could not fade And she placed herself upon the throne With a blade that flashed and a helm that shone. And there was a lass of five years old, With her eyes so bright and her smile so bold, As she watched from the edge of the battleground. With her eyes so bright and her smile so bold, And a sudden grin as the dream took hold, And she said, "Someday I'm going to be like her." When she was a lass of five years old...

The runes are cast, the cold wind blows. My voice is drawn from deep inside. Grant me the strength to fell my foes, Or if I must, to die With honor and with pride And courage as I go. So when I fall I'll see them charging through the sky, Come to take me where I yearn to go On the thunderclouds will Odin's daughters ride, Come to take me home. I'll take my sword and shield in hand, I'll fight until my final breath, And if I'm cut down where I stand, Then let me never rest Until I know my death Has served my native land. And when I fall will they be charging through the sky, Come to take me where I yearn to go? On the thunderclouds will Odin's daughters ride, Come to take me home. The smell of war is in the air And fallen warriors all around, And hot blood trickles through my hair, And still the only sounds Across this battleground Are steel and horns that blare. And when I fall will they be charging through the sky, Come to take me where I yearn to go? On the thunderclouds will Odin's daughters ride, Come to take me home? I fight ‘til I can fight no more And many die upon my blade, But my wounds are deep and sore; I glimpse a passing shade And know I'll soon be laid to rest Forevermore. For as I fall I see them charging through the sky, Will they take me where I yearn to go? On the thunderclouds do Odin's daughters ride Will they carry me back home? Like creatures from a dream With hoofbeats pounding through the falling rain, They ride on bone-white steeds With stormy eyes and lightning in their manes. Now, our struggles done, They smile as they take our hands And choose us one by one. Then, before my eyes, She has appeared and silently She beckons me to ride. And with my brothers I am charging through the sky, Soon to see the place we've yearned to go, It is the warrior's death today that we have died, And we are riding home It is a warrior's death today that I have died And I am going Home.

Lay by me, now, my love, The night grows pale You’ll ride the waves at dawn ‘Neath billowed sail You spoke of warrior’s wyrd, Of battle’s brand And I shall do my best To understand And when you see the north star shine tonight The longfire will be burning bright To warm these halls with steady, waiting flame For you must be strong When Freya calls your name. Come, let me braid your hair And gird your gentle arms I’ll paint your shield with signs To keep you safe from harm And may your step be strong, Your blade be true Go now, and all my heart Goes forth with you. And when you see the north star shine tonight, The longfire will be burning bright To warm these halls with steady, waiting flame Or to guide you home, Should Freya call your name. In mighty battle’s roar If you should fall Take heed, and you shall hear Her distant call To fields where warriors rest At journey’s end No sorrow then you’ll know, Nor bitter tears I’ll spend And if you see the north star shine that night Still the longfire will be burning bright And through the dawn I’ll keep that faithful flame, And I’ll be strong ‘til Freya calls my name For it’s soon, I know, that she will call my name And when you see the north star shine tonight The longfire will be burning bright To warm these halls with steady, waiting flame And to guide us home When Freya calls our names.
