about

This melody is owed to the late Stan Rogers. I wrote the lyrics on the day before the premiere of the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series. I was so pleased at the way the math just worked out. But more, the original tune really helped to bring out the warm and sentimental feeling that comes with talking to old heroes.

lyrics

Where the desert is blown over footprints and bones
And the Dune Sea moves as one
Illusions will shine, my blood sings in time
With the binary noonday suns
There's sand in my shoes, there's nothing to lose
And the past is a painful dream
I try to look back, but Obi-Wan you're all I see

The Coruscant lights will brighten the night
Till it's more than a picture show
I sit with my friends where forty-five cents
Would have bought me something long ago
They've got something to say, but I'm so far away
Nowhere else I would rather be
'Cause you just walked on the screen
And Obi-Wan you're all I see

And I just want to know your story better than I've known anything before
You've been twice bereaved
And you're tired of grieving
But Obi what are heroes for?
For 23 years you've been young; you were older
For 22 more, somehow,
But I'll want to see you fly in space 45 years from now

So among all the faithful to the Force or the Way
I've been reaching out to find a friend
Who knows all the lore, who's been here before
And knows how all the stories end
At the end of the day, they might ask me to stay
And watch a trilogy or three
And we'll cheer on the good guys, but Obi-Wan you're all I see

And I just want to know your story better than I've known anything before
You've been twice bereaved
And you're tired of grieving
But Obi what are heroes for?
For 23 years you've been young; you were older
For 22 more, somehow,
But I'll want to see you fly in space 45 years from now

And I just want to know your story better than I've known anything before
You've been twice bereaved
And you're tired of grieving
But Obi what are heroes for?
For 23 years you've been young; you were older
For 22 more, somehow,
But I'll want to see you fly in space 45 years from now
I'll still want to see you fly in space 45 years from now
