about

Another of my earliest songs, and the first one I entered in a competition. I took second place and won a sword! Valkyries! Vikings! Valhalla! RAWR.

(It is true that Viking is a verb. It is also true that I do what I want.)

lyrics

The runes are cast, the cold wind blows.
My voice is drawn from deep inside.
Grant me the strength to fell my foes,
Or if I must, to die
With honor and with pride
And courage as I go.
So when I fall I'll see them charging through the sky,
Come to take me where I yearn to go
On the thunderclouds will Odin's daughters ride,
Come to take me home.

I'll take my sword and shield in hand,
I'll fight until my final breath,
And if I'm cut down where I stand,
Then let me never rest
Until I know my death
Has served my native land.
And when I fall will they be charging through the sky,
Come to take me where I yearn to go?
On the thunderclouds will Odin's daughters ride,
Come to take me home.

The smell of war is in the air
And fallen warriors all around,
And hot blood trickles through my hair,
And still the only sounds
Across this battleground
Are steel and horns that blare.
And when I fall will they be charging through the sky,
Come to take me where I yearn to go?
On the thunderclouds will Odin's daughters ride,
Come to take me home?

I fight ‘til I can fight no more
And many die upon my blade,
But my wounds are deep and sore;
I glimpse a passing shade
And know I'll soon be laid to rest
Forevermore.
For as I fall I see them charging through the sky,
Will they take me where I yearn to go?
On the thunderclouds do Odin's daughters ride
Will they carry me back home?

Like creatures from a dream
With hoofbeats pounding through the falling rain,
They ride on bone-white steeds
With stormy eyes and lightning in their manes.
Now, our struggles done,
They smile as they take our hands
And choose us one by one.
Then, before my eyes,
She has appeared and silently
She beckons me to ride.

And with my brothers I am charging through the sky,
Soon to see the place we've yearned to go,
It is the warrior's death today that we have died,
And we are riding home
It is a warrior's death today that I have died
And I am going
Home.
